Redbox: Transforming the business, increasing revenue, and delighting customers
In 2016, Redbox generated $2B in revenue, had over 40 million customers and maintained over 700 million transactions a year. As a Director of Product at Redbox, I was responsible for the movie discovery experience on all touch points (web, mobile, kiosk), overseeing mobile apps and managing all UX and visual designers on a dotted line. After a year in the role, it became obvious that the product organization should realign around a more common org structure that included a design team. I was asked to shift roles to become Redbox’s Director of Design.
We accomplished a great deal during my time at Redbox:
Launched Redbox Online Beta, which allowed Redbox customers to stream movies on their devices, computers and TVs
Redesigned responsive web site, leading to increased conversion
Implemented the first robust analytics system on our kiosks that allowed a shift to a test and learn methodology
Integrated advertising into Redbox web and mobile app properties
Redesigning and rebranding the responsive website, while also integrating streaming into the site, as well as our mobile app, TV device platforms (e.g., Roku) was the result of amazing coordination between talented cross-functional team members and several agency partners.
